Removing the top cover of a Bosch washing machine

Removing the top cover from SM BoschIf equipment breaks down, repairs cannot be avoided. Despite its reliability, a Bosch washing machine can also break. To begin repairing it, any master, and especially a beginner, needs to know all the nuances of removing the lid of a Bosch washing machine, because that’s where it all begins. Let's look at everything step by step.

Instructions

Opening the top cover on a modern washing machine is the simplest action during repairs. Before you start, be sure to unplug the washer from the outlet. By de-energizing the device, you make it safe, and this is, first of all. Then follow these instructions:

  1. Pull the machine out to a free space, allowing access to the rear of the machine. If necessary, disconnect the sewer and water hoses. When you pull out the machine, the length of the hoses may simply not be enough and they will create additional inconvenience for you.

Be sure to turn off the water supply tap to the washing machine before starting work.

  1. Take a T-20 star-shaped screwdriver or a Phillips screwdriver.
  2. From the back of the washing machine, locate the two bolts on the sides, as shown in the photo below, and unscrew them completely.

  3. Now slide the cover towards you, that is, from front to back relative to the machine, and then lift it up. That's all, access to many parts of the equipment is provided. Read about the full analysis in the publication How to disassemble a Bosch washing machine.

To put the cover back in its place, you will first have to push it back into the grooves. Only then tighten the bolts.

Old generation Bosch washing machines, of which there are not many left, have a different lid fastening.The screws holding it in place are located not at the back, but on the side, closer to the control panel, as in the photo. Please note that such bolts may be hidden by plugs.

Other brands

Removing the top cover of any brand of front-loading washing machine is easy; in most cases, they are attached in the same way, with two bolts at the back. Stickers from LG, Samsung, Ariston, Electrolux, Indesit, Hansa, and Whirlpool have similar mounts. However, there are exceptions; here are some examples.

Ardo will have to show a little skill with the typewriter. On this machine the cover is also secured with two bolts at the rear. But to lift it, you will have to move the part at an angle forward relative to the washing machine body. What angle this is, you will understand for yourself when the cover comes out of the grooves of the latches.

Washing machines from the German brand Miele have side-mounted lids. Bolts with hexagonal screwdriver heads are hidden under plugs. These plugs can be easily removed with a knife or flat-head screwdriver. After unscrewing the screws, you need to lift the cover up and remove it from the latches located on the sides of the back wall.

A few words need to be said about machines with vertical loading, because their top cover has a different purpose, and therefore it is removed differently. Let’s look at how exactly, using an Indesit brand machine as an example. In order to dismantle the top cover in case of repair, you need to:

  1. remove the control panel, which is attached to the back with two self-tapping screws for a Phillips screwdriver;
    cover for Indesit_1
  2. carefully lift the panel without tearing out the wires;
  3. disconnect the wiring from the panel and put it aside;
  4. look carefully under the rear cover of the car, find three screws on the right and left: two screws at the top and one at the bottom;
  5. unscrew the lower screws;
    cover for Indesit_2
  6. Carefully use a screwdriver to pry the cover up by the holes, you need to do this alternately, first a little on the left, then lift it on the right, then lift the cover further on the left, and then on the right. With such gradual movements you will not break off the latches.

  7. lift the lid up when you feel that the latches are completely released.

As you can see, opening the top cover on washing machines of any brand, including Bosch, is not so difficult, the main thing is to find the fasteners. And everything else can be figured out as you go. Good luck!
