Fault codes DE and E2

DE e2 errors in a Samsung washing machineThe code displayed on the display of the washing machine informs about a malfunction that has occurred with one of its parts. The error code helps you understand the causes of the breakdown and the actions that need to be taken to fix it.

In many cases, having correctly deciphered the code, the user independently copes with the problem and carries out home repairs. It’s much less common for a Samsung machine to break down so badly that you have to call a repairman. What to do if code DE or E2 appears on the display? Let's talk about this in detail.

Decoding errors, reasons for occurrence

Let's start with the DE error, it is related to the hatch locking device. This error may occur if:

  1. The door was opened with excessive force.
  2. The hook of the locking lock is deformed.
  3. The hatch door has moved due to high temperature or pressure, this usually happens during the boiling process.

Error E2 in a Samsung machine informs the user that it is impossible to drain waste water or the drain is slow, the drain waiting time has been exceeded. The reasons for this error may be:

  • clogged drain filter;
  • debris getting into the drain pump or its breakdown;
  • blockage in the pump pipe;
  • clogged sewer drain;
  • defect in the operation of the water level sensor;
  • electronic board malfunction.

In some models of washing machines, for the same reasons, not error E2, but error 5E may occur.

Repairing the hatch door

If a DE error occurs, the first thing you can try is to open the hatch door and close it again. If the DE error has not been resolved or the hatch door does not open, you will have to check and change the locking lock.But first you need to open the door, all the ways to do this are in the article about how to open a washing machine.

After the door is open, inspect the lock and hook. If the hook is deformed, then the cause of the DE error is obvious. Replacing the hook is very simple:

  • Unscrew the bolts in a circle that hold the two parts of the washing machine door together;
  • carefully remove the plastic part;
  • unscrew the hook and install a new one;
  • putting the door back together.

Replacing the locking lock if necessary is also not difficult, the main thing is to buy an original spare part, and then we do everything according to the instructions:

  1. take a Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the bolts holding the locking lock;
  2. Using a flat-head screwdriver, very carefully bend the spring of the clamp that holds the rubber cuff; there is such a spring under the rubber at the bottom.

  3. then pull out the clamp counterclockwise;
  4. move the elastic band away from the lock;
  5. we pull out the lock through the drum and remove the cover from it;
  6. disconnect the connectors with wires;
  7. we connect the new original lock and assemble everything in the reverse order;

  8. run a test wash to check if the DE error appears.

Cleaning the drain system

If error E2 appears, you can start checking by checking whether the drain system of the machine is clogged. The simplest thing that absolutely any user can check is the drainage filter, which is located behind a small door at the bottom of the front of the washing machine. Open the door, unscrew the cap counterclockwise and pull the filter out a little towards you.

washing machine filterDon't forget to place a rag near the machine so that the remaining water in the tank does not spill on the floor or leak under the machine.If the machine has a full tank of water, it is better to first drain the water through the emergency drain, the hose of which is located next to the filter plug.

The next thing you can check without disassembling the washing machine body is the sewer drain. To do this, disconnect the hose from the sewer and tilt it into a bucket; if water flows out of the machine normally, it means one hundred percent that the sewer is clogged. Call a plumber and solve the problem. If the water does not drain or does not drain well, then the problem is in the machine.

Getting to the pump and the pipe coming from it in a Samsung washing machine is not difficult. This can be done through the bottom of the equipment, which is either missing or easily unscrewed. The work algorithm can be represented as follows:

  1. We take out the powder receptacle from the machine.
  2. We drain all the water in it.
    Water should not remain in the machine because, when it is tilted, it can get on the control board, which, upon contact with water, will get wet and then burn.
  3. Carefully place the washing machine on its side.
  4. From the end side, unscrew the bolts holding the pump.
  5. From the bottom side, disconnect the terminals from the pump, unclench the clamp and remove the pipe.
  6. Now we find the bolts on the pump that fasten its two parts, unscrew them and inspect the impeller. It should be free of hair, wool and other debris.
  7. We check whether the motor rotor rotates; if not, then most likely the drain pump winding has burned out. In this case, we buy a new pump and install it in place of the old one.
  8. If the pump is working properly, check the pipe disconnected from the pump and inspect it for debris.
  9. We are assembling the washing machine.

How to check the water level sensor

washing machine pressure switchIf the drainage path is in perfect order and no blockages are found, we proceed to checking the water level sensor or, as it is also called, a pressure switch.Why is it necessary to check it? It's simple: if the pressure switch does not send a signal to the control board that the tank is full of water, then the drain pump does not work and the water does not drain. What can happen to the pressure switch:

  1. The main and most common cause of malfunction is oxidized terminals. It is enough to clean them, process them, reconnect them, and the E2 error will be eliminated.
  2. The wiring is burnt out. In this case, we arm ourselves with a multimeter and check all the wires going from the pump to the pressure switch and from the pressure switch to the board one by one. We find the faulty wire and replace it with a new one. The work is painstaking, but not at all difficult.
  3. The pressure switch triac on the control board burned out.
  4. If points 1-3 were excluded during the check, this indicates that the pressure switch is not working properly, it is necessary replace water level sensor.

Checking the control board

Very rarely, the cause of the E2 code appearing on the display of a Samsung machine is a malfunction of the control board. This is the most complex part of the machine. Replacing it with a similar one can be simple, because you just need to reconnect the sensors from the old board to the new one.

Important! One incorrectly connected wire can cause the new board to burn out before your eyes, so you need to be very careful or trust this work to professionals.

But there are cases when the board can be repaired by re-soldering several elements on it. We definitely wouldn’t recommend doing this kind of work yourself. It is better to contact a service center. The control board is an expensive part, so in this case, repairing it yourself is a risk.

In conclusion, we note that most of the malfunctions reported by DE and E2 errors on a Samsung washing machine can be fixed independently.Therefore, before you panic, it is better to understand the issue, and only then draw conclusions.
