SE error on LG washing machine

SE error on LG washing machineWhat to do if a washing machine that was functioning properly just yesterday does not want to work and gives an incomprehensible error? It is important to pay attention to signs of trouble. The SE error on an LG washing machine is displayed on the display when the equipment normally draws water, but when it goes directly to executing a given program, it stops functioning. Failure is typical for washing machines of the DirectDrive series from the ElG brand, both for machines with direct drive and with a belt drive and a three-phase quiet electric motor.

Source of this error

What to do if the automatic washing machine displays a code? Error SE indicates a problem with the electric motor. The drum cannot spin the laundry because the motor shaft does not rotate. If the ElG washing machine issues an SE code, there can be many reasons for this “behavior” of the equipment.Checking the power wiring going to the engine

  1. Failure of the tachogenerator.
  2. Contacts are disconnected or their connection is weak. In this case, the user will have to inspect each connector connected to the electric motor. Sometimes they move a little, resulting in signal interruption. It would also be useful to inspect the cable of wires leading from the engine to the main control unit. If a wiring defect is detected, the damaged areas of the wires should be replaced.
  3. System failure. In such a situation, the solution to the problem will be quite simple. It is necessary to turn off the power to the washing equipment for 10-20 minutes. When the machine is reconnected to the power supply, the SE fault must be reset. If rebooting the machine does not help, you need to urgently take on the repair of the “home assistant”.

Damage to other elements of the washing machine may also be a likely cause. We are talking about an electronic control unit, the electric motor itself, etc. Having understood the issue, it will be easier to repair the machine.

"Symptoms" of a breakdown

How to behave if an automatic washing machine shows the SE error with enviable consistency? Most likely, the problem is a failed Hall sensor. This element controls the rotation speed of the drum. The sensor is placed directly on the engine.

When the Hall sensor is faulty, the system “does not recognize” the intelligently set drum rotation speed and displays an error on the display.

Most often, the tachogenerator cannot be repaired, but simply replaced with a new one. In some cases, it is not the sensor itself that “burns out,” but the resistor located in the same electrical circuit with it. By replacing the faulty resistor, you can completely solve the problem of a non-rotating drum.

In cases where the code is displayed on the screen quite often, the washer’s electric motor is probably not functioning at full capacity. You will have to diagnose the motor and, if necessary, replace it with a working one.

If the ElG washing machine does not start rotating the drum and displays the SE error on the display, it is also possible that the control module has stopped working. In simple words, the microcircuit that controls the entire washing machine was damaged. It is better to entrust the repair of the electronic unit to a specialist; you will have to solder some tracks on the board and replace burnt parts responsible for the functioning of the engine.

The probable reason for the SE fault code appearing on the machine display is damaged wiring between the control module and the electric motor.During operation of the equipment, vibrations occur, which can lead to rubbing of the wires. A full check of the electrical circuit section for damage and the final restoration of already frayed cables will help correct the situation.

Fixing the problem

According to statistics, in 90% of cases, the display of the SE fault code on the screen indicates damage to the Hall sensor. The device in the washing machine is necessary to regulate the speed of the drum. When the tachogenerator is broken, the drum “does not understand” at what speed to rotate, so the intellect states an error SE. It is also possible that the reason is not the tachometer, but the failure of the resistor; the situation can be corrected by replacing it.

When diagnosing an SE error, be sure to check whether the tachogenerator is working properly (the part is located on the electric motor shaft).

The algorithm of actions will be as follows:Let's check the Hall sensor

  • remove the back wall of the washing machine;
  • carefully pull the belt off the motor shaft;
  • unscrew the electric motor mounting bolts;
  • remove the motor from the housing;
  • release the contacts of the Hall sensor, use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the part (the optimal value is 60 Ohms);
  • switch the tester to voltage measurement mode, check the sensor while cranking the electric motor (normally, the detected value will be 0.2 V).

If a malfunction of the tachogenerator is detected, the washing machine can only be repaired by replacing it. To do this, disconnect the wiring from the sensor and unfasten the cover. Remove the device from the motor and install the new one in the reverse order.

If your washing machine is equipped with a direct drive, then checking the tachogenerator will occur in a different way.What to do in this case? Unfasten the back panel of the machine, then carefully remove the motor cover inverter type. Find the Hall sensor and use a multimeter to calculate the resistance values between the contacts of the part. The tachogenerator terminals have the following designations: VCC, GND, N.C., Sa, Sb.

If the tachometer is fully operational, the resistance between its contacts 1 and 4, 1 and 5 will be 10 kOhm. If the value on the tester is normal, you should check the resistors. If a malfunction is detected, the solution to the problem will be to replace the Hall sensor or separately the resistors of the electrical circuit.
