Error E20 in Aeg washing machine

error e20 in aegModern washing machines are equipped with a self-diagnosis program, and German AEG machines even more so. Information in the form of a code on the display allows you to reduce the time for troubleshooting and troubleshooting. One of the most common errors of this brand is the error code E20. What does it mean, what should we do in such a case, let’s figure it out together.

Error interpretation

Code E20 in AEG washing machine informs the user that there is no drain. In other words, for some reason the AEG brand washing machine cannot get rid of the waste water that remains in the tank after washing. Accordingly, she also cannot continue to execute the washing program, since there is simply nowhere to get clean water. This problem may be caused by the following reasons:

  • clogged drain filter;
  • pump malfunction;
  • kinked drain hose.

This error should not be confused with error E21, they are of course similar. However, error E21 indicates a wider range of problems associated with draining waste water from the tank. The presence of errors E20 and E21 greatly facilitates the work of the technician, since they limit the range of reasons why there is no drain. Accordingly, the technician will not have to check a bunch of parts before he discovers the weak point that caused the specified error.

Alternative codes

There are several dozen models of washing machines of this brand, produced at different times. Their diagnostic system is slightly different. More precisely, the error codes of AEG washing machines differ. In some washing machines, alternatives to code E20 are codes C2 and EF0. You will also hear two beeps. They also indicate a blockage in the drain system.

For your information! On some models, the EF0 code also indicates increased foaming.

Let's not get distracted and return to the specific error E20, what should we do with it?

Removing blockages

filter cloggedFirst, try resetting the program by unplugging the washing machine from the network. This is the most universal way to stop one program and start a new one after reconnecting the washing machine to the network. Then turn on the machine and try to start draining. If the reset did not help and the error appears again or the machine freezes, then proceed to checking the drain filter. For an AEG washing machine it is located in the lower right corner. Open the door and unscrew the part. Then we wash it and return it to its place.

After the drain filter, check the drain hose for kinks. Perhaps you were moving the machine and accidentally pinched it. This doesn't happen often, but it's still worth checking.

Changing the pump

Unlike LG or Samsung washing machines, replacing the pump in an AEG machine will be a little more difficult. However, many owners whose hands grow “from the right place” are quite capable of doing this work on their own. The work is complicated by the fact that the pump in this case can only be reached through the front wall of the machine. Let us describe this process in detail:

  1. disconnect equipment from the electrical network, water supply and drainage;
  2. pull the machine out to a free place, providing free access to all walls;
  3. Unscrew the two self-tapping screws from the back that hold the top cover;
  4. slide the cover horizontally and then remove it;
  5. pull out the powder receptacle from its seat;
  6. Unscrew the screws under the tray that hold the front part of the case;
  7. remove the control panel from the latches and carefully place it on top of the machine, without disconnecting the chips with wires;
  8. Unscrew a few more screws under the panel;
  9. open the hatch door and remove the metal clamp from the cuff, picking it up at the bottom with some suitable tool (not a sharp one);
  10. unhook the water inlet pipe and, if there is one, the air supply pipe from the cuff;
  11. remove the cuff from the groove of the front wall and tuck it inside the drum;
    remove the cuff
  12. disconnect the wires from the door lock;
  13. pull out the drain filter;

    ! Don't forget to place rags under the washer in case water leaks.

  14. tilt the machine on its side so that from the bottom you can unscrew the screws that hold the front part of the body;
  15. lifting the body up, move it to the side;
  16. disconnect all wires and fittings from the pump;
    we take out the pump
  17. unscrew the pump from the body and pull it out of the machine;
  18. put a new part in place of the old one;
  19. Reassemble the equipment in reverse order.

It is worth saying a few words about the pump of the AEG washing machine. In some cases, it is possible not to change the entire part, but to replace only the impeller if it is damaged.

So, error E20 is one of the easiest to fix. If you carefully follow the instructions, you can cope with this difficult task at home. Good luck!

    Good day! I can't pull out the filter. Something is holding him there.
    I'm afraid if I pull it any harder, I might rip it out.
    It’s impossible to pry it off; the filter extends a couple of cm from the housing.
    What can you recommend?

    The filter is clean, there are no kinks in the drain hose. The error occurs both in the middle of the wash cycle and at the last stage. Has anyone encountered this?

      Yes, sometimes E20 stsrt/stop also comes out, you click and it turns on. It's annoying... I don't know what to do...

      • Gravatar Andrey Andrey:

        The same nonsense began to happen. At the last stage, E20 simply appears periodically and the start/stop flashes, this is before the spin cycle... you press it, the spin cycle does not occur, and the laundry is wet. At the same time, if you just run the spin program, everything is fine.

          Additionally, check the drain; there may be a blockage in the sewer pipe itself.
