Heating element (heating element) for a washing machine

Heating element for washing machineA heating element is a heating element. Its task is to heat the water to the required temperature in the washing machine. In different models of machines it can be located differently. In some it is on the front side, in others on the back. In both cases, the heating element is mounted at the bottom of the tank. And there are two wires going to it.

When the washing machine suddenly does not heat the water, the first thing you need to do is check the functionality of the heating element. After all, its breakdown is one of the most common malfunctions in this type of household appliances. The heating element fails due to contact with hard water. When it is heated regularly, it becomes covered with scale. And it is scale that is one of the main causes of breakdown.

The heating element is broken - how to replace it?

First, you need to check if the power to the washing machine is turned off. To turn it off, simply unplug it from the socket.

Then we need to remove the cover of the washing machine. Most often, the heating element is located at the back. And it's easy to do. Since in most models the back cover can be easily removed if necessary. It is attached with only four bolts or self-tapping screws.

If in your washing machine it is located in the front, then you will have to tinker.

Replace heating element

To remove the front wall of the case, you will need to remove the clamp securing the cuff. It is usually removed using pliers or a screwdriver, depending on what type of clamp is used. Then you need to tuck the cuff inside the drum to keep it out of the way. After this, the hatch lock is released. It is secured with two bolts.

We also need to remove the control panel. To do this, first remove the cover (upper part of the body) of the washing machine. It is secured from the back with two bolts. By removing these bolts, we can slide the cover out of the grooves. To do this, push the cover back from the front. After which it can be easily removed. Then remove the plastic dispenser tray from the hopper. Next, unscrew the fixing screws and place the control panel on top so that it does not interfere with further work.

Then remove the bottom panel. In some models it is secured with bolts, in others with latches. There may be screws behind it that will also need to be unscrewed. After all this, we can finally remove the front wall of the washing machine.

Replacing the heating element

Replacing the heating element of a washing machineNow let's remove the heating element. As we already wrote above, the heating element is located at the bottom of the tank. And first you need to remove the wires from it.

If you are afraid of forgetting where which wires are attached, you can first take a photo of their position with your phone or camera. Then remove the terminals from the visible part of the washing machine heating element.

After this, you need to unscrew the fixing nut, which is located in the middle of the heating element. There is no need to remove it. You just need to unscrew it as much as possible, but so that it still holds at the end of the thread. Then it, together with the protruding pin, needs to be pressed inward. You may need to hit it with a hammer to do this.

Next you can get the heating element. To do this, you may need to pry it off using a slotted screwdriver or knife. After you have removed the old broken heating element, you can put it aside and install a new part. Everything is assembled in exactly the same way, but in reverse order.

And you don't have to remove the front wall of the machine. After all, this is longer and more difficult than simply unscrewing a few bolts on the back and removing it. Getting to the heating element will not be a problem here.

After this, you just need to remove the wires and unscrew the nut. You can also not completely twist the nut, but leave it at the end of the thread. Then you will also need to press the pin inward and remove the heating element. You can also take a photo of the position of the wires in advance if necessary. This will help you remember which wire goes where when reassembling. Watch a video of replacing the heating element of a washing machine:
